Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Stuffed cabbage rolls is a classic and comforting dish, but did you know the purple cabbage has a sweeter taste than the green cabbage? Personally, I find it tastier and it has 10x more vitamin A than the green cabbage!

Cabbage rolls are so easy to make, ingredients can be found at any grocery store, and to be honest, you can stuff them with anything you like! It can be fully vegetarian or you can add meat! You can make this dish totally to your liking!

For me, I chose to use ground pork, carrots for color, and mushrooms!

PREP TIME: 15 mins

COOK TIME: 15 mins

SERVES: 4-5 people

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground pork

  • Whole head of purple cabbage

  • Garlic (7 cloves diced)

  • Carrots (1 cup diced)

  • Mushrooms (1 cup diced)

  • Ginger (1-2 tbsp diced)

  • Yellow onion (1 small diced)

Seasonings (1 spoon each):

  • Dark soy sauce

  • Fish sauce

  • Oyster sauce

  • Black vinegar

  • White pepper

  • Brown sugar

  • Salt (to your taste)

Directions:

  1. Cut the stem of your purple cabbage head and cook it in a pot of boiling water for 8-10 mins until the cabbage leaves can easily fall off (rinse with cold water)

  2. Cut the vein from the cabbage leaves so it’s easier to roll (put aside)

  3. In a bowl, mix your pork, mushrooms, carrots, ginger, onion, garlic, and seasonings (you can add more or less depending on your taste buds)

  4. Put a spoon full of your pork filling on the cabbage leaves and roll like you would with a spring roll.

  5. Steam for 15 mins and enjoy (:

You can also add some vermicelli or glass noodles in your mix for some carbs!

This is the final dish, the purple cabbage is sweet and soft while the inside is hearty and meaty! You can also steam this in a bowl with some chicken broth to make it a soupy stuffed cabbage rolls dish!
